Abstract:

An image display device according to one embodiment of the present invention is equipped with a light source, an image generation unit P, and a projection optical system 15. The image generation unit modulates light, which is emitted from the light source, to generate image light. The projection optical system has a lens system L1, and a concave reflecting surface Mr3. The lens system is configured using a reference axis at a position to which the generated image light is incident as a reference, and overall said lens system has a positive refractive power. The concave reflecting surface is configured using the reference axis as a reference, and said concave reflecting surface reflects the image light, which is emitted from the lens system, towards an object for projection. The concave reflecting surface reflects at least a portion of a light beam which is included in the image light incident to the concave reflecting surface, and furthermore reflects the same in a direction which intersects, at an angle of at least 80 degrees, with a direction which follows along the reference axis.
