Abstract:
This projection optical system for an image display device has a lens system and a concave reflective surface. The lens system is formed based on a reference axis, at a position to which generated image light is incident, and has a positive refractive power overall. The concave reflective surface is formed based on the reference axis and reflects the image light emitted from the lens system toward an object to be projected. In addition, the projection optical system is configured to satisfy the relationship 0<|Δθ(hmax)-Δθ(0.9•hmax)|/θ(hmax)<0.056, where: h is the light beam height from the reference axis; θ(h) is the angle between the direction of the light beam height and a tangent line of a function Z(h) indicating the shape of the concave reflective surface according to the beam height h; Δθ(h) is the amount of change in the angle θ(h) in the light beam height h; and hmax is the light beam height h of a reflection point farthest separate from the reference axis of the concave reflective surface that reflects the image light.
