Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to achieve high-resolution display wherein the smoothness of movement in a displayed image is taken into account when an image having a frame rate in which the display frame rate changes irregularly is received and a display unit displays an image frame at a fixed frame rate with regular intervals. To this end, an image display device that receives an image signal having a fluctuating image frame rate and displays an image frame at a fixed frame rate with regular intervals is provided with an image conversion unit for converting an image received by an image reception unit into an image displayed by a display unit. The image display device is configured so that for a first frame among received image frames that is received at a timing not matching a regular interval timing used for display by the display unit, the image conversion unit uses time direction interpolation processing in which the first frame and a second frame received before the first frame by the reception unit are used to generate a third frame, namely, a frame having the regular interval timing used for display by the display unit, then outputs the result to the display unit.
