Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to adjust a quantity of light for displaying an image to an optimum light quantity in an image display device having a superimposing unit (109) for character signals, and a resolution converting unit (112).
The superimposing unit (109) generates superimposition signals on the basis of image signals and character signals included in video signals, a control unit (114) outputs control signals in predetermined timing, a selecting unit (110) selects the superimposition signals during a time when the control signals are being outputted thereto, and selects the image signals during a time when the control signals are not being outputted thereto, a resolution converting unit (112) converts the resolution of an image displayed by the signals selected by the selecting unit (110) to a predetermined resolution, a display unit (104) displays an image with the converted resolution, a control unit (114) determines, corresponding to brightness of the image having the display resolution thereof converted during a time when the control signals are outputted, a light quantity with which the display unit (104) displays an image, and the determined light quantity is maintained by an iris unit (115).
