Abstract:
[Problem] To suppress consistency irregularities of projection images in an image display device without increasing the device size or lengthening the projection distance. [Solution] From the narrow side first, an image display device that comprises a projection optical system (200) disposed with a dioptric system (210) and a catoptric system (220), wherein the catoptric system (220) has a light path-bending planar mirror (230) for bending the light path of a flux passing through, comprises an s-polarizing means (280) that enables only the flux that is s-polarized with respect to the planar mirror (230) to be used in the projection. The angle of incident with respect to the planar mirror (230) of at least a portion of the flux that is s-polarized onto the planar mirror (230) is configured so as to be no less than 60°, and projects the flux, which is emitted from an image formation element (110A) and passes through the projection optical system (200).
