Abstract:
This image display device, which is either an organic electroluminescent display device or a liquid-crystal display device containing blue or ultraviolet LEDs, phosphors, and liquid-crystal cells, contains a polarizer and a first optical film in front of said polarizer. Said first optical film exhibits a Re(589) of 3,000 to 30,000 nm and a Rth(589) of −30,000 to −3,000 nm, and the angle (θ1) between the slow axis of the first optical film and the absorption axis of the polarizer is 45°±30°. This image display device does not decrease in brightness and exhibits minimal rainbow distortion when viewed through polarized sunglasses, even if an additional film that exhibits a high degree of optical anisotropy and is stretched along at least one axis is provided on the front of the image display device.
