Abstract:
An objective of the present invention is to obtain a video display device wherein color reproducibility is enhanced and viewing is improved. An image display device comprises: a saturation adjustment unit which adjusts saturation of input-side color data which represents a color image and outputs color data corresponding to the said color data; an image display means for displaying an image on the basis of the saturation-adjusted color data; and an ambient light correction unit, further comprising an ambient light detection means for detecting the brightness and color of ambient light of the image display means and outputting data representing the magnitudes of each hue component of red, green, and blue of the ambient light of the image display means as ambient light data which represents the result of the detection, said unit generating a correction value from the output of the ambient light detection means with respect to the ambient light. The ambient light correction unit has a function which carries out a computation which extends the hues of the ambient light to six, these being red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and magenta, and computes and outputs an ambient light correction value from the computed result with respect to the ambient light of the image display means. The saturation adjustment unit adjusts the saturation of the input-side color data on the basis of the ambient light correction value.
