Abstract:
Provided is an image display device capable of both a pupil-magnification function and an angle-of-view enlargement function. This image display device comprises: an image generation unit that emits a first image light; a pupil-magnification element that enlarges the diameter of a light beam included in the first image light from the image generation unit and uses same as a second image light; a first condensed light optical system that condenses the second image light and forms an intermediate picture; and a second condensed light optical system that condenses light from the intermediate image and generates a virtual image in the eye of an observer. The image display device is characterized by the maximum emission angle of the first image light being smaller than the maximum angle of view for the virtual image and the diameter of the light beam included in the second image light being larger than the diameter of the light beam included in the virtual image, in a plane including at least the image generation unit, the pupil-magnification element, and the eye of the observer.
