Abstract:
Provided is an image display device which displays high dynamic range video. Provided is an image display device provided with at least a control unit, a light source unit, a phase modulation unit, and an intensity modulation unit. In response to an image signal, the control unit controls the driving of at least one of the light source unit, the phase modulation unit, and the intensity modulation unit. The phase modulation unit comprises a phase modulation panel which is formed from a plurality of phase modulation pixel groups. The intensity modulation unit comprises an intensity modulation panel which is formed from a plurality of intensity modulation pixel groups. The light source unit irradiates the phase modulation panel with first irradiation light. The phase modulation panel modulates the phase of the first irradiation light irradiated from the light source unit, splits second irradiation light for each prescribed phase modulation pixel group, and irradiates the intensity modulation panel with the second irradiation light for each prescribed intensity modulation pixel group. The intensity modulation panel modulates the intensity of the second irradiation light irradiated from the phase modulation panel.
