Abstract:
Provided is an image display device that makes it possible to further improve image quality. Provided is an image display device at least comprising an optical engine, at least two light-guiding panels, and an optical element that is disposed between a first light-guiding panel and a second light-guiding panel constituting the at least two light-guiding panels, wherein: a first input diffraction grating and a first output diffraction grating are disposed in the first light-guiding panel; a second input diffraction grating and a second output diffraction grating are disposed in the second light-guiding panel; light that has been emitted from the optical engine and that has a first wavelength band is introduced into the first light-guiding panel via the second input diffraction grating, the optical element, and the first input diffraction grating in this order and is propagated by total reflection, and the light is emitted to the outside of the first light-guiding panel via the first output diffraction grating; and light that has been emitted from the optical engine and that has a second wavelength band is introduced into the second light-guiding panel via the second input diffraction grating and is propagated by total reflection, and the light is emitted to the outside of the second light-guiding panel via the second output diffraction grating.
