Abstract:
An image encoding apparatus comprises a control means (12) for supplying, to a quantization means (11), parameters to be used for a quantization process. The quantization means (11) includes: a two-dimensional table (13) that stores resultant values of calculations constituting a part of the quantization process and using each of a plurality of values possibly taken as values based on the quantization parameters and possibly taken as quantization weighting factors used for visual image quality adjustments; and a calculation means (14) that receives resultant values in accordance with two parameters supplied from the control means (12) and that uses the received resultant values to generate a quantization factor.
