Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to an image encoding device, an image encoding method, an image decoding device, and an image decoding method which make it possible to reduce an amount of processing performed in inter prediction processing employing sub-blocks. In this encoding device, identification information identifying a sub-block size indicating the size of sub-blocks used in inter prediction processing is set, and an image is encoded by switching to sub-blocks having said size and performing inter prediction processing to generate a bit stream including the identification information. In the image decoding device, the identification information is parsed from the bit stream, inter prediction processing is performed by switching to sub-blocks having a size corresponding to the identification information, and the bit stream is decoded to generate an image. This disclosure can, for example, be applied to image encoding devices which encode images, and image decoding devices which decode images.
