Abstract:
Even when encoding an input image by dividing it into tiles, it is possible to adjust image quality according to the characteristic of each tile. An input image signal is encoded into encoded data via a tile division section (102), a wavelet conversion section (103), an entropy encoding section (106), and the like and stored in a code memory (107). In parallel with this, a distortion calculation section (108) calculates distortion on encoding path unit of each code block and stores the result in a distortion memory (109) while a complex tile judgment section (111) judges whether the tile is a complex tile and stores the judgment output in a tile type memory (112). The distortion data output from the distortion memory (109) is output to a multiplier (110). The multiplier (110) multiplies the distortion data with a weight coefficient selected by a weight coefficient selection section (113). Thus, distortion of each weighted encoded path is output to a rate control section (114). The rate control section (114) performs code amount control with the encoded data.
