Abstract:
An image encoding method for the compression encoding of image data includes: a binarisation step (S110) in which a binary signal is generated by binarising an image data signal to be encoded; a context determination step (S120) in which a lower- order context, which is a context associated with the type of signal to be encoded, and a higher-order context, which is common to the lower-order context and to contexts associated with other signal types, are determined; a probability information calculation step (S130) in which encoding probability information used for arithmetic encoding of the binary signal is calculated using higher-order probability information which corresponds to the determined higher-order context and lower-order probability information which corresponds to the determined lower-order context; an arithmetic encoding step (S140) in which the binary signal is arithmetically encoded using the encoding probability information; and an update step (S150) in which the higher-order probability information and the lower-order probability information are updated on the basis of the binary signal.
