Abstract:
Provided is an image forming apparatus that has a simple configuration and is capable of stably positioning an image formation target having irregularities on a conveyance surface before the image formation target is conveyed to an image forming position after being fed to a conveyance unit having a conveyance belt or conveyance rollers. An image forming apparatus 1, in which a toner image transferred to an intermediate transfer body 31 is transferred to an image formation target B conveyed by a conveyance unit 40, has: a detection unit 70 that detects the image formation target B at a position away from a position P4 at which the toner image is transferred from the intermediate transfer body 31 to the image formation target B on a conveyance path, toward a conveying-direction upstream side by at least the moving distance of the image to a position at which a latent image is transferred as the toner image to the image formation target B via the intermediate transfer body 31; and a latent image formation-start control unit 91 that controls the timing for starting latent image formation on a photosensitive body 13 carried out by an exposure unit 12 on the basis of the detection signal of the image formation target B detected by the detection unit 70.
