Abstract:
An image forming apparatus (1) includes: a main frame (2); a developing cartridge (3) including a casing (10), a storage medium (51) having an electrical contact surface (511), and developing roller (30); a photosensitive drum (80); an electrical connector (711); a separation mechanism (91, 93); and a controller (5) configured to communicate with the storage medium (51) via the electrical connector (711). The separation mechanism (91, 93) can move the casing (10) relative to the main frame (2) in a separating direction in which the developing roller (30) separates from the photosensitive drum (80). The controller (5) is configured to perform: moving, by controlling the separation mechanism (91, 93), the casing (10) in the separating direction; determining, in response to performing the moving, whether communication with the storage medium (51) is established; and outputting, when determining that the communication with the storage medium (51) is not established, an error.
