Embodiments of the present invention relate to an image encoding/decoding method and apparatus using selective filtering of a motion-compensated frame, and to an inter-prediction method and apparatus for same. One embodiment of the present invention provides an image-encoding apparatus which selectively filters, for each of a plurality of filtering blocks, the motion-compensated frame generated by estimating and compensating for the motion of the current frame of an image, so as to generate a filtered motion-compensated frame, subtracts the filtered motion-compensated frame from the current frame to generate a residual frame, transforms and quantizes the residual frame, and encodes the transformed and quantized residual frame. According to the present invention, the motion-compensated frame is filtered to remove a large amount of the temporal redundancy remaining in the residual frame, thus improving video compression efficiency.
