Abstract:
This image pickup element is provided with: a light receiving unit, which generates and outputs an image pickup signal corresponding to a light receiving quantity; a readout unit that reads out the image pickup signal from the light receiving unit; a first input/output switching unit that performs selective switching between the output of the image pickup signal outputted from the readout unit, and the input of a synchronization signal from the outside; and a timing control signal generation unit that generates and outputs, on the basis of the synchronization signal inputted from the first input/output switching unit, and a reference clock signal inputted from the outside, a readout timing control signal for controlling timing when the readout unit reads out the image pickup signal, and a switching timing control signal for controlling timing when the first input/output switching unit performs selective switching between the output of the image pickup signal and the input of the synchronization signal. Consequently, the image pickup element whereby a chip area can be easily reduced can be provided.
