Abstract:
Provided are an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, a program, and an endoscope system, which enable efficient collection of information including lesions which may be difficult to be detected by virtual endoscopy. An image processing apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a first image input unit for inputting a virtual endoscopic image; a second image input unit for inputting a real endoscopic image; an correlating unit (57) for correlating the virtual endoscopic image to the real endoscopic image; a first characteristic area-extracting unit (51) for extracting a first characteristic area from the virtual endoscopic image; a second characteristic area-extracting unit (54) for extracting a second characteristic area from the real endoscopic image; and a storing unit (61) for storing at least either one of information on a non-extracted area which is correlated to the second characteristic area and is not extracted as the first characteristic area and information on the second characteristic area which is correlated to the non-extracted area.
