Abstract:
Provided are an information processing apparatus, a region determination method, and a computer program with which a region of a document image to be clipped from an image that has been read can be detected with higher accuracy. An image processing apparatus includes: an edge pixel extraction unit that extracts edge pixels from an input image; an outer-edge pixel extraction unit that extracts outer edge pixels positioned outside among the edge pixels; a rectangle detection unit that detects a rectangle from the outer edge pixels; a peripheral edge pixel extraction unit that extracts peripheral edge pixels constituting the periphery of edge pixels that are connected among the edge pixels; and a region determination unit that determines, in the case where a rectangle is detected by the rectangle detection unit, the detected rectangle to be a region of a document image to be clipped from the input image, and that determines, in the case where no rectangle is detected by the rectangle detection unit, a region including a non-rectangle encircled by the peripheral edge pixels extracted by the peripheral edge pixel extraction unit to be the region of the document image to be clipped from the input image.
