Abstract:
An image processing device for creating an image used for making an illumination model leading to improvement of the recognition performance of an image recognition system. Shade base vectors each having as components the values of vectors generated by linear combination of images under a given illumination condition are computed from a registered image showing an subject and three-dimensional shape data for associating the points of a three-dimensional shape of the subject with the pixels of the registered image, assuming that the alvedo is uniform. By using the shade base vectors, the shade shown in the registered image is estimated, and a completely scattered component image showing the shade is created. From the completely scattered component image, a highlight-eliminated image is created by eliminating the specularly reflected component from the registered image. Thus, the image recognition system can define the illumination base vector from the highlight-eliminated image, thereby realizing image authentication with high accuracy without being influenced by the specular reflection.
