Abstract:
Provided are an image processing device and method, a program, and an image forming device for generating a high-quality image while avoiding artifacts and worsening granularity even when there is a failure in a recording element of a recording head. The image densities of pixel columns adjacent to a pixel column corresponding to a faulty recording element that has been masked are corrected, and different quantization processes are performed on a first image region and a second image region containing regions other than the first image region, said first image region containing the pixel column corresponding to the faulty recording element that has been masked and pixel columns adjacent thereto. For at least a portion of the tonal range, a first quantization pattern obtained by a first quantization method applied to the first image region has a pattern characteristic in which the spatial frequency components in a first direction that is parallel to the direction of relative movement of a recording medium to the recording head are suppressed for all spatial frequency components in a second direction that is orthogonal to the first direction, in comparison to a second quantization pattern obtained by a second quantization method applied to the second image region.
