Abstract:

Image portions in frequency domains exceeding the horizontal and vertical frequency components of an input image are sharpened without generating a frequency component due to overlapping of sharpening processing in the horizontal and vertical directions. Tis image processing device is equipped with: a vertical filter for removing high-frequency portions of the vertical frequency component of an input image signal; a horizontal sharpening processing section for generating a horizontal harmonic having a higher frequency component than the horizontal frequency component included in the input image, a horizontal filter for removing high-frequency portions of the horizontal frequency component of the input image signal; and a vertical sharpening processing section for generating a vertical harmonic having a higher frequency component than the vertical frequency component included in the input image. A horizontal-direction processing unit, wherein the vertical filter is provided in the stage preceding the horizontal sharpening processing section, and a vertical-direction processing unit, wherein the horizontal filter is provided in the stage preceding the vertical sharpening processing section, are connected in series or in parallel to each other in order to sharpen the input image.
