Abstract:
This invention provides an image processing device that reduces perturbations due to heat haze in images containing both stationary regions and moving objects. Said device obtains histograms for the level distributions of a target image being corrected and a correction frame and uses said correction frame to correct the target image while varying, as a function of the degree of similarity between the histograms, a proportion in accordance with which to mix the target image and the correction frame. In order to adaptively control the size of image blocks for which the histograms are computed, the device uses the image blocks from the target image and a corrected image to compute two indices having different degrees of robustness with respect to subject distortion and determines the appropriateness of the image-block size on the basis of the relationship between said indices. The difference between the histograms can be used as one of the indices, and the sum of absolute differences (SAD) between pixel values can be used as the other index.
