Abstract:
The present disclosure pertains to an image processing device and an image processing method that enable the storing of auxiliary information in a CbCr component in a YCbCR format such that deterioration due to codec distortion does not occur. The image processing device is equipped with: a reception unit that receives depth image data wherein a depth image that is transmitted together with a texture image is stored in a Y component in a YCbCr format, and auxiliary information is stored in a CbCR component in the YCbCr format; and an auxiliary information utilization unit that uses the auxiliary information to carry out prescribed image processing on the texture image and/or the depth image. The possible values of the auxiliary information with respect to each pixel in the texture image have N patterns, and the CbCr component stores a gradation value for which a combination of the auxiliary information for two pixels is converted to NxN gradation values. The present technology can, for example, be applied to home servers and the like which generate a display image having a prescribed viewpoint from an omnidirectional image.
