Abstract:
To obtain an image processing device that allows picture quality and amount of delay to be appropriately adjusted in accordance with image playback conditions. The image processing device (1) comprises: an encoder (2) for performing an encoding process, which includes the process of quantizing an image signal; and a controller (3) for controlling quantization parameters in the quantization process. The controller (3) determines the quantization parameters for the current macroblocks to be processed. The determination is made on the basis of the difference between the target code amount per prescribed number (Z) of macroblocks and the generated code amount related to a predetermined number of macroblocks processed immediately prior. Thus, the prescribed number (Z) can be variably set by the controller (3).
