Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an image processing method and computer program with which it is possible to create, from an image which includes various colors, especially a photographed image, a binary image which is suited to extracting text, labels, or other such information that contain a meaning. [Solution] There are executed: a step of identifying a text region corresponding to a color image from which a background region has been excluded; a step of classifying pixels included in the background region into L groups (where L >= 2); a step of classifying pixels included in the text region into N+L groups, where N+L is the sum of L of the background region and N (where N >=2) that is unique to the text region; and a step of creating a binary image in which, treating the background region groups as the same group and separating N+1 groups into two groups, the pixels that are included in one of the two groups are displayed with one single color while the pixels that are included in the other of the two groups are displayed with another single color.
