Abstract:
Provided is an image processing method capable of improving the accuracy of separating a foreground image and a background image in a specified area even when the background color distribution over the entire image and in the specified area are significantly different from each other. A Gaussian mixture model for the background is generated on the basis of the image outside a rectangular area (52) in a first step, the degree of contribution of each Gaussian distribution for the background to the image in the rectangular area (52) is calculated in a second step, and each Gaussian distribution for the background is revised using a weight value corresponding to the degree of contribution in the third step, thereby generating a revised Gaussian mixture model for the background.
