Abstract:
Provided is an image projecting device capable of improving the utilization efficiency of illuminating light and suppressing an increase in the temperature of an image display unit. An image projecting device (100) comprises: light sources (10) for emitting illuminating light; a polarization converting element (30) for converting the illuminating light in a polarization direction in a first direction, and outputting the same as backlight light; a polarization maintaining diffusion unit (50) for diffusing the backlight light while maintaining the polarization direction thereof, and transmitting the same; and an image display unit (60) onto which the backlight light that has been transmitted through the polarization maintaining diffusion unit (50) is incident from a rear surface, and which emits image light from a display surface.
