Abstract:

Provided are: an image recording device which is capable of calibrating a reading means at a more appropriate timing; and a method for controlling the image recording device. This image recording device is provided with: a recording means for recording an image on a recording medium; a reading means which uses imaging elements to read the surface of the recording medium and the surface of a prescribed reference member; a calibration means which calibrates the reading means in terms of the detection values of the imaging elements on the basis of the results of the reading of the surface of the reference member by the reading means; and a calibration control means which causes calibration to be performed by the calibration means in cases when the type of image to be recorded on the recording medium by the recording means satisfies a prescribed image type condition, and/or in cases when a prescribed reading-affecting factor which affects the results of the reading of the surface of the recording medium by the reading means satisfies a prescribed reading-affecting factor condition.
