Abstract:
A lens unit (20) having an image pickup optical system (31) and an image pickup section (33) that generates an image signal from an image that is picked up is supported so as to be rotatable in the yawing direction and pitching direction. Image shake correction of the image that is picked up is performed by controlling the drive action of a drive section (45) that drives in rotation, in the yawing direction and the pitching direction, the lens unit (20), based on the shaking that is applied to the lens unit (20) detected by a shake detection section (61), the position of the centre of gravity of the lens unit (20) calculated by a centre of gravity position calculation section (62), and the position of the lens unit (20) detected by a position detection section (46). In this way, even if the position of the centre of gravity of the lens unit varies due for example to a focusing adjustment operation or zoom operation, optimum image shake correction can still be performed, thereby making it possible to improve image shake correction performance.
