Abstract:
Provided is an imaging apparatus which enables charge to be smoothly transferred from a photoelectric conversion unit to a transfer destination. This imaging apparatus is provided with: a semiconductor layer that includes a front surface and a rear surface opposed to the front surface; a photoelectric conversion unit that is embedded in the semiconductor layer and that generates, through photoelectric conversion, charge based on the amount of received light; and a transfer unit that includes first and second trench gates extending from the front surface of the semiconductor layer toward the rear surface so as to reach the photoelectric conversion unit, and that transfers the charge from the photoelectric conversion unit through the first and second trench gates to the same transfer destination. The first trench gate has a first length that extends from the front surface to the photoelectric conversion unit, and the second trench gate has a second length that extends from the front surface to the photoelectric conversion unit, but is shorter than the first length.
