Title:
IMAGING DEVICE, EXTERNAL FLASH DETECTION METHOD, PROGRAM, AND INTEGRATED CIRCUIT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/119669
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
When imaging a photographic subject by means of an imaging device using a CMOS image sensor, flashes of external light, such as from a flash, cause white band-shaped artifacts to appear in the image signal due to the movement of a rolling shutter. Processing an image with such an artifact or removing said artifact requires identifying the frame in which the artifact occurred. A line-averaging unit (11) is used to compute the mean luminance level for each line in an image signal; said levels are temporarily stored in a memory unit (12), and then a frame-differential computation unit (13) computes the difference between the mean luminance level of each line and the mean luminance level of the corresponding line in the subsequent frame. These frame differentials are compared to a reference value; attention is paid to areas in which the values are large, and where the change lasts for one frame, influence from an external flash is determined to have been present.
