Abstract:
The present technology pertains to an imaging device with which it is possible to improve the precision of focus detection in a hybrid AF scheme, and a method for controlling said device. This imaging device is provided with: an imaging element in which a plurality of pixels are arranged in rows and columns; a first focus detection unit for detecting a first focusing position on the basis of a phase difference obtained from pixel pairs of the imaging element; a second focus detection unit for detecting a second focusing position on the basis of the contrast in an image captured by the imaging element; and a setting unit for calculating the degree of reliability of the first focusing position on the basis of the amount of noise contains in the image captured by the imaging element, and setting the starting position of the second focus detection unit from a case in which the degree of reliability of the first focusing position is high so as to be closer to the first focusing position than is the starting position of the second focus detection unit from a case in which the degree of reliability of the first focusing position is not high. The present feature is applicable to an imaging device, etc.
