Abstract:

Provided is an imaging optical system which can expand the magnification range to a low magnification side, while providing a long optical axis distance without increasing the size of an optical system of a microscope apparatus as a whole. A variable power optical system (3) used for a parallel-path stereo microscope apparatus 100, etc., has a plurality of optical paths optical axes of which are substantially parallel and includes a plurality of lens groups which vary a diameter of a light flux incident substantially in parallel upon each of the optical paths and which emit substantially parallel light bundles. At least two lens groups are moved in the optical axis direction in each optical path in accordance with the power variation. At least two of the lens groups in at least one of the plurality of optical paths are moved so as to have a component in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis in at least a part of a power variable section from a high magnification end to a low magnificaiton end in accordance with the power variation.
