Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing, using a simple procedure, an O-methylisourea sulfate that is important as an intermediate of medicines, agrochemicals and industrial chemicals. The present invention is a method for producing an O-methylisourea sulfate represented by formula (2) by reacting cyanamide, sulfuric acid and methanol in the presence of water, and is characterized in that in the reaction, the sulfuric acid is used at a quantity of 2 equivalents or more relative to the cyanamide and the sulfuric acid concentration, which is determined using the formula, is adjusted to 65 wt% or more. Sulfuric acid concentration=S/(S+W)×100 (in the formula, S and W indicate the amounts of sulfuric acid and water, respectively in the reaction.) In this method, the O-methylisourea sulfate can be easily recovered by means of filtration or the like because the solubility of the O-methylisourea sulfate in the reaction system greatly decreases.
