Description:

Description

AN IMPROVED RECLOSABLE ZIPPER STRIP

Technical Field

[1] The invention relates to an improved reclosable zipper strip, and a method for disposing and attaching the zipper strip on an upper end portion of a plastic pack.

Background Art

[2] In general, a reclosable zipper strip and a method for disposing and attaching it on the upper end of the plastic pack are well known in the field of art.

[3] In U.S. Patent No. 4, 909,017 registered on March 20, 1990, there was disclosed a reclosable zipper strip and a method for attaching the zipper strip on the upper end of the plastic pack by means of thermal fusion. Also, in EP Patent No. 0 345 930Bl published on January 4, 1992, there was disclosed a reclosable pouche attaching the zipper strip. However, if the zipper strip was attached on an inner upper end surface of a thermoplastic plastic pack by means of thermal fusion to each other when they were thermally fused in the longitudinal direction, it cannot any more perform its function.

[4] In the above publications, a female profile base and a male profile base of the zipper strip are all constructed of the same thermoplastic plastic material. However, since the material constituting the female profile base and the material constituting the male profile base are thick, thermal fusion is not produced between the female profile base member and the male profile base member when they were to be thermally fused at the inner upper end portion of the pack, and thermal fusion was only produced at the inner upper end surface of the pack.

[5] In U.S. Patent No. 6,273,609Bl patented on August 14, 2001, there was disclosed a reclosable thin zipper strip and a method for thermally fusing the zipper strip on an inner upper end portion of the thermoplastic plastic pack in the longitudinal direction. In the above described method, the female profile base member and the male profile base member are disposed in the inner upper end portion of the zipper strip and a plastic pack, so that they can be thermally fused to each other at the time of the thermal fusion. Then, they cannot perform their function as a zipper. Accordingly, in the above described document, a heat-resistant interception layer is formed at an inside of the female profile base member and at an inside of the male profile base member to avoid thermal fusion between the female profile base member and the male profile base member, so that the attachment between the female profile base member and the male profile base member can be prevented. However, there caused problems that it was very burdensome and the production cost was increased. Also, in such a case, since the female and male profile base members are made of the same materials, they are

thermally fused instantly at the time of the thermal fusion of the zipper strip to the pack, so it can not perform function of a zipper to thereby increase defective proportion during packing procedure.

[6] The present inventors have studied for a long time to solve such conventional problems as described above, and at last accomplish the present invention. Disclosure of Invention Advantageous Effects

[7] Accordingly, since the zipper strip of the present invention has been made by using the plastic having a physical property different from each other for the female and male profiles, it becomes more smooth in opening and closing in comparison with the zipper strip made by using same plastic material, and there is another advantage that the female and male profiles are not thermally fused altogether at the time of the thermal fusion of the zipper strip to the pack.

[14] The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description of the preferred embodiments of the invention in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which: Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiment of the present invention with reference to the attached drawings. The present invention has been accomplished based on the fact that if the materials differing in their physical property are used for a female base member 120 and a female profile 121 ; and a male base member 110 and a male profile 111, they will not be stuck to each other at the time of the thermal fusion of the plastic pack made of thermoplastic resin. If the female base member 120 and the female profile 121 ; and the male base member 110 of the male profile 111 are man-

ufactured by using plastic having different physical property, it will be preferable to form the thermoplastic resin having material kinds identical with those of the thermoplastic plastic pack on partial or entire outer surface of the female base member 120 and the female profile 121 or male base member 110 and the male profile 111, which are made of thermoplastic materials having different physical properties. Then, thermal fusion will not be formed between the female and male base members 120, 110 of the female and male profiles 121, 111 to each other, when the zipper strip is disposed longitudinally at the upper end surface of the thermoplastic plastic pack, and the thermal fusion will be produced between the outer surface of the female and male base member 120, 110 of the female and male profiles 121, 111 and an inner surface of the pack to make them attached by the thermal fusion. In this instance, as shown in FlG. 1, the base member 110 of the male profile member, a coating layer 122 formed at the female base member, and inner layer of the pack made by stacking thermoplastic plastic pack into a plurality of layers, are constructed of thermoplastic resin of the same material. The female base member is constructed of thermoplastic plastic materials having different physical property.lt is preferable that the female and male profile base member 120, 110 of the female and male profiles 121, 111 are manufactured by extrusion by using polymer thermoplastic resin, which is harmless and appropriate for the packaging of foods. For instance, the female and male profiles can be extruded by using resins of different kind to each other, which is selected from the group of consisting of polyethylene resin, polypropylene resin, polyethylene terephthalate(PET), polystyrene resin and polycarbonate resin. It is preferable to use high density polyethylene resin as for the polyethylene resin. In addition, non-toxic thermoplastic plastic with a different physical property can be used. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the embodiment shown in the drawings. [15] In a first embodiment, there is illustrated an embodiment that a main body 100 of the zipper strip shown in FlG. 1 comprises a female profile 121 and a male profile 111. A female base member 120 of the female profile 121 of the zipper strip can be extruded by using polypropylene and the male base member 110 of the male profile 111 is extruded by using the high density polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate. In this instant, when the thermoplastic plastic pack, to which the zipper strip is thermally fused, is made of polypropylene material or is made by stacking material into several layers, or innermost layer of the pack is made of polypropylene, a polypropylene layer 122 is formed on a portion or the entire portion of the outer surface of the female base member 120 of the female profile 121 or the male base member 110 of the male profile. In this instant, the polypropylene film layer (hereinafter, referred to as 'thin film layer') can be formed by using a coating method, a

coextrusion method, or by using a conventional adhesive. Moreover, when the thermoplastic plastic pack, to which the zipper strip is thermally fused, is made of polypropylene material or is made by stacking material into several layers, or innermost layer of the pack is made of polypropylene, a polypropylene layer is formed on a portion or the entire portion of the outer surface of the female base member 120 of the female profile 121 or the male base member 110 of the male profile. In this instant, the polypropylene film layer (hereinafter, referred to as 'thin film layer') can be formed by using a coating method, a coextrusion method, or by using a conventional adhesive. In FlG. 2, there is disclosed a second embodiment of the present invention, in which a main body 100a of the zipper strip comprises two female profiles 121 and two male profiles 111. It is manufactured through the same method as that shown in FlG. 1, however, an extrusion mold is different. According to the main body 100a of the zipper strip shown in FlGs. 3 and 4, the material of the pack (in case of the pack using a multiply stacked film, it corresponds to polymer resin at the innermost side to which the zipper is attached) is made to be broad in width, the material of the resin having different physical property is made to be narrow in width, and the film made of the material identical with that of the pack stacked or coextruded at the outside of the main body is formed to have the same width as that of the profile at the opposing side. Also, according to the main body 100a of the zipper strip shown in FlGs. 3 and 4, the material of the pack (in case of the pack using a multiply stacked film, it corresponds to polymer resin at the innermost side to which the zipper is attached) is made to be broad in width, and the material of the resin having different physical property is made to be narrow in width. In addition, the film made of the material identical with that of the pack stacked or coextruded at the outside of the main body is formed to have the same width (FlG. 5) as that of the corresponding profile base member (FlGs.3 and 4). In the zipper strip comprising the female profile and the male profile according to the embodiment shown in FlG. 6, the thermoplastic resin material constituting the female profile base member and the thermoplastic resin material constituting the male profile base member are manufactured by using materials different in their physical property, such that any one of the materials of the female and male profile base members is manufactured by using the thermoplastic plastic material identical with that of the pack to which the zipper strip will be attached, and the other of the female and male profile base members is manufactured by using the thermoplastic plastic material of different physical property, and a thin film layer made of material identical with that of the corresponding profile base member is formed on the outer surface without a central portion on which the female and male profiles of the zipper strip are disposed, to thereby accomplish the zipper strip. Thus, it is possible to prevent the thickness of the portion of the female and male profiles from becoming too thick. Accordingly, since

the zipper strip of the present invention has been made by using the plastic having a physical property different from each other for the female and male profiles, it becomes more smooth in opening and closing in comparison with the zipper strip made by using same plastic material, and there is another advantage that the female and male profiles are not thermally fused altogether at the time of the thermal fusion of the zipper strip to the pack.

[16] The method of thermally fusing the zipper strip of the present invention to the inner upper end of the thermoplastic plastic pack has been well known from a long time before, and, for instance, it is performed by an identical method disclosed in US Patent No. 4, 909,017. While the present invention has been described with reference to the particular illustrative embodiments, it is not to be restricted by the embodiments but only by the appended claims. Also, it is to be appreciated that those skilled in the art can change or modify the embodiments without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
