Abstract:
The present inventive disclosure is directed to an improved urine-specimen cup/collector that provides for enhanced sanitary and leak-resistant handling. In one embodiment, the urine collector is equipped with a hard-plastic, easily-grasped handle that allows a user to not have to hold the cup directly when collecting the sample. The handle includes perforations or scoring close to the interface with the cup body so that the handle can be easily broken/snapped off from the cup, allowing cup storage in traditional storage trays for specimen cups prior to subsequent transport and/or testing. The cup incorporates a thermo-chromic component that is calibrated to change color if the temperature of the contained specimen falls within a specific range and incorporates an internal fluid-directing member on the upper-internal wall of the cup to allow directional pouring from the cup to minimize spillage during pour evolutions.
