Abstract:
A method of counting cash items added or removed from a cash drawer which is opened and closed during a transaction includes the step of weighing a group of cash items in the closed drawer after a transaction occurs and comparing the weight of the group for the transaction with the weight of the group before the transaction. As a result of the comparison (10), a determination is made as to whether items have been added or removed from the group (12) and a counting method (14) is selected in accordance with whether items have been added or removed from the group. Cash items are then counted in accordance with the selected counting method.
