Disclosed is an impedance matcher for use in a communication system, operable to match a transmitter or receiver, respectively, to an associated antenna, comprising a stub matching circuit and a phase shifter, whereby, in use, energy flows from a source to the phase shifter, to the stub matching circuit and to a load.

AMENDED CLAIMS

CLAIMS

1 . An impedance matcher for use in a communication system, operable to match a transmitter or receiver, respectively, to an associated antenna (10), the impedance matcher comprising:

a stub matching circuit (50); and

a phase shifter (20),

whereby, in use, energy flows from a source to the phase shifter (20), to the stub matching circuit (50) and to a load.

The impedance matcher of claim 1 wherein in the case of use with a receiver, energy is arranged to flow from the antenna (10) to the phase shifter (20), to the stub matching circuit (50) and to the receiver. 3. The impedance matcher of claim 1 wherein in the case of use with a transmitter, energy is arranged to flow from the transmitter, to the phase shifter (20) to the stub matching circuit (50) and to the antenna (10).

4. The impedance matcher of any preceding claim wherein the stub matching circuitry (50) comprises either a single stub matching circuit or a double stub matching circuit.

5. The impedance matcher of claim 4 wherein the single or double stub matching circuit (50) is either open or closed circuit.

6. The impedance matcher of claim 5 wherein the stub matching circuit (50) is a double stub matching circuit comprising two short circuit stubs (30, 40). 7. A transceiver comprising first and second impedance matchers according to any of claims 1 to 6, wherein:

the first impedance matcher is for a receive chain; and 12 the second impedance matcher is for a transmit chain.

8. The transceiver of claim 7 comprising a phase shifter controller operable to supply each phase shifter with a signal indicative of a channel.
