Abstract:
Provided is an induction hardened crankshaft having an excellent balance of fatigue strength, machinability, and quenching crack resistance. The induction hardened crankshaft has a chemical composition containing, in mass%, 0.30-0.60% of C, 0.01-1.50% of Si, 0.4-2.0% of Mn, 0.01-0.50% of Cr, 0.001-0.06% of Al, 0.001-0.02% of N, 0.03% or less of P, 0.005-0.20% of S, and 0.005-0.060% of Nb, with the remainder comprising Fe and impurities, wherein the microstructure of non-induction hardened portions is mainly composed of ferrite/pearlite, the fraction of ferrite, Fα, satisfies expression (1) below, the microstructure of induction hardened portions is mainly composed of martensite or annealed martensite, and the grain size of prior austenite is 30 μm or less. (1): Fα≥-150×[C%]+84, wherein [C%] is the content (in mass%) of C in the induction hardened crankshaft.
