Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a novel indwelling shunt implant (100) and an associated surgical method for the treatment of glaucoma in which the implant device comprises at least one spiral body and/or grooved or corrugated body and is placed to divert aqueous humor from the anterior chamber of the eye into Schlemm's canal, the collector channels, or the aqueous venous system or to distribute aqueous fluid within Schlemm's canal. The present invention is further directed to providing a permanent, indwelling shunt to provide increased egress of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber to Schlemm's canal, collector channels, or aqueous venous system for glaucoma management.
