Abstract:
A square or rectangular area on e medium surface such as a printed matter is defined as a block. The vertical and horizontal straight lines constituting the frame of the block are defined as reference grid lines. A virtual dot is arranged at a predetermined interval on the reference grid lines. Reference dots are arranged on the virtual dots arranged on the horizontal reference grid line. The straight lines connecting the reference dots and virtual dots in the horizontal direction are defined as grid lines. The intersections of the grid lines are defined as virtual dots. A dot pattern is generated by using arrangement of one or more information dots having a distance and a direction based on the virtual dot. Such a dot pattern is read as image information by optical read means. The dot pattern is made into a numerical form and information corresponding to the numerical form information is read from storage means for output.
