The objective of the invention is to appropriately perform content transmissions between apparatuses. An information processing apparatus comprises a control unit. The control unit of the information processing apparatus, upon detection of a contact with or proximity to a second external information processing apparatus via a short-distance wireless communication, performs a control to select, from among contents recorded on a recording medium, a content to be transmitted and then transmit the selected content to the second external information processing apparatus. In this case, the control unit of the information processing apparatus uses selection information that is information for selecting, from among the contents recorded on the recording medium, any content to be transmitted and that is information generated in a first external information processing apparatus. That is to say, the control unit of the information processing apparatus performs, on the basis of the selection information, a control to transmit any content recorded on the recording medium to the second external information processing apparatus.
