Accurate movement detection is performed by determining whether a sensor for detecting a movement of a subject is mounted to a human body or mounted externally to the human body, and processing for generating and recording metadata based on the result of the detection is executed. Sensor information corresponding to a movement is inputted from a sensor mounted to the human body of a user whose image is to be captured or mounted externally to the human body, and a sensor mounting position is determined. Further, the sensor information is inputted to analyze a user movement, and metadata associated with a captured image is generated. A sensor mounting position detection unit calculates the ratio between a high-frequency component and a low-frequency component that are included in the sensor information, and on the basis of the calculated ratio, determines whether the sensor is mounted to the human body or mounted externally to the human body. A metadata generation unit inputs user movement detection information obtained by executing a movement detection algorithm in which a sensor mounting position that matches a detection result of the sensor mounting position is assumed, and generates the metadata associated with the captured image.
