An information processing unit including a display (5) attached to a main body casing (3), a touch panel (7) fitted on the surface of the display (5), a cover (11) having a window and being large enough to completely cover the display, hinges (13) for connecting the main body casing (3) and the cover (11) in such a manner that the cover can be opened and closed to expose and conceal the display (5), a first display screen (1000) having frequently required information and operation switches displayed at predetermined positions of the display exposed through the window with the cover closed, a second display screen (2000) having detailed information and various operation keys operated on the display (5) as a whole with the cover open, and switching means (15) for switching the two display screens in the interlocking arrangement with the open/closing operation of the cover (11). Because the first display screen (1000) suitable for a confirmation operation during laptop use and the second display screen suitable for the normal confirmation operation can be easily switched in the interlocking arrangement with the open/closing operation of the cover (11), the confirmation operation can be carried out satisfactorily in accordance with the mode of use. The present invention provides also an operation method of the information processing unit.
