Abstract:
An initial access method and device, which are used for solving the problem in existing technical solutions for initial access by a terminal device of the time for an initial access process of the terminal device being relatively long. The method comprises: a terminal device sends random access preambles to a network device on a plurality of uplink beams; the network device screens out a random access preamble having the best signal quality from the random access preambles received on the plurality of uplink beams, and determines the uplink beam of the random access preamble having the best signal quality received thereby to be the best uplink beam of the terminal device, so that the terminal device may always send other subsequent uplink messages in the initial access process to the network device on said best uplink beam.
