Abstract:
Provided is an initial crack formation device (1) in which a front-side end (Ga) of a glass ribbon (G) in a conveyance direction (B), said glass ribbon being conveyed by a belt conveyor (3), is damaged to form, in the width direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction (B) of the end (Ga), initial crack groups (CG) obtained by aggregating a plurality of initial cracks (C). The initial crack formation device (1) is provided with a flap wheel (4) which damages the end (Ga) while rotating towards the glass ribbon (G) being drawn in the conveyance direction (B). The initial crack formation device (1) is configured such that the rotational peripheral speed of the flap wheel (4) is faster than the conveyance speed of the glass ribbon (G).
