Abstract:
Breakage of a nozzle meniscus due to a change in pressure inside a head cap covering a print head is prevented. An ink jet recording apparatus has a head cap arranged in a non-recording region and covers a nozzle arrangement surface of a print head with the head cap in the non-recording region to be capable of sealing a space formed by the nozzle arrangement surface of the print head and a containing part of the head cap. The ink jet recording apparatus is provided with a control unit, a timer, and head cap elevating means for supporting the head cap so as to be movable upward and downward with respect to the print head. When a sealed space is formed between the head cap and the nozzle arrangement surface of the print head as the head cap moves upward, the control unit determines whether a set-up time has elapsed after the formation of the sealed space and opens the sealed space to the atmosphere for a prescribed time when the set-up time has elapsed.
