Description:
AN INNOVATION IN THE RISER MANDREL

Technical Field

This invention is related to an innovation in the riser arbor used to provide efficient metal flow between the risers and the models available in casting factories and used on molding lines.

It allows to save on craftsmanship, cost and time by preventing the leak of the molding sand into the spring inside the body through the operation of the riser pin in a closed system inside the main pin body of the arbor, in the levelling operation of the arbor.

Prior Art

Today, standard riser pins are used directly connected from the main body to the model in casting factories. There is a slit inside standard riser pins and there is a spring inside this slit. This spring is used to adjust the height of the riser. While using standard slit riser pins, a retainer would be placed to the spring from the inside of the slit to prevent the popping out of the spring from the pin. This retainer also ensures the position that the spring needs to stay in. Due to the slit, moulding sand enters the pin during processing and it damages the spring mechanism. Figure-6 and Figure-7.

A riser pin does not operate efficiently when sand enters the pin. The riser placed onto the pin cannot go down to the desired level. The sand that fills between the spring rings prevents it. When the riser is not in the correct position, the riser cannot function properly and effective metal flow cannot be obtained. In this case, parts tear down molds and gas defect type part scraps occur. Additionally, when pins are replaced before causing any damage in short time, it also increases material costs.

When the riser starts not being able to maintain its position due to errors in the pins, the production line halts and it causes lost time due to repair and replacement of the pins.

1- Riser Arbor

2- Main Pin Body

3- Riser Pin

4- Spring

5- Connector Pin

6- Connector Pin Hood

An innovation in the riser arbor (1) in the present invention includes;

- A spring (4) that is located in the inner middle section of the main pin body (2) and prevents damaging by increasing resistance during the vertical linear movement of the riser pin (3),

- A connector pin (5) that is located in the inner bottom section of the main pin body (2) and connected to the spring (4) on one side and allows for connecting to the outer plane on the other side,

- A riser pin hood (6) that is placed on top of the riser pin (3) and allows for keeping fixed the product placed on the riser arbor (1),

- A main pin body (2) that constitutes the outer structure of the riser pin (1) and by allowing the vertical movement in a closed system of the riser pin (3) thanks to its gradual structure on the inside, prevents the inlet of the moulding sand into the closed system during processing, - A riser pin (3) that is located on the main pin body (2), realizes the levelling operation by contracting or releasing the spring (4) during the vertical movement in a closed system of the product placed on the riser arbor (1) and prevents the entrance of moulding sand into the closed system during the process.

The riser pin (3) inside the main pin body (2) of the riser arbor (1) in the present invention operates in a closed system during mould levelling. The riser pin (3) moves on the gradual structure inside the main pin body (2). As the mechanism operates in a closed system, sand and other unwanted particles do not enter into the arbor (1). Therefore, effective levelling is realized and mechanical corrosion on the riser arbor (1) is minimized.

The incorrect positioning of the riser pin (3) is the main reason behind mould tearing, gas and other leaks due to the design of standard pins. The main reason behind the dislocation of the riser position is the slits available in the prior art of the riser pin (3). Sand entering through the slits disrupts the spring (4) mechanism. Moreover, thanks to the riser arbor (1), the positioning of the spring (4) is realized through the grades inside the main pin body (2) instead of a retainer pin.
